Mehmet Kalkavan Strengthens BNP Paribas Cardif Turkey’s Leadership

With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Mehmet Kalkavan has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee of BNP Paribas Cardif Turkey, a prominent player in Turkey’s protection insurance sector, specializing in life insurance and pension plans.

Kalkavan is a distinguished insurance professional who has significantly impacted both public and private sectors through various senior management positions. He holds a BA in Economics from the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and an MA in Financial Economics from Boston University Metropolitan College.

Beginning his career in 1993 with the Insurance Supervisory Board of the Undersecretariat of Treasury, Kalkavan played a pivotal role in the regulatory and supervisory processes of insurance firms. From 2004 to 2009, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Insurance Supervisory Board, later advancing to Deputy Secretary General and then Secretary General at the Association of Insurance, Reinsurance and Pension Companies of Turkey, where he spearheaded initiatives in sectoral governance.

Between 2009 and 2015, as Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General at the Insurance Association of Turkey, Kalkavan drove the sector’s advancement. He also served as General Manager at the Turkish Insurance Institute Foundation from 2015 to 2024, and as Head of Internal Systems at Türk Reasürans A.Ş. from 2024 to 2025, overseeing strategic processes in insurance and reinsurance, particularly in the development and management of risk management, internal control, and compliance systems.

Kalkavan has further enriched the insurance sector by participating as a board member in key national and international organizations, including the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (TCIP), the Agricultural Insurance Pool, the Insurance Arbitration Commission, and Insurance Europe.
