AXA Turkey and Kantar joined forces to present an insightful survey that uncovers the social dynamics and motivations surrounding sports in Turkey. With a sample size reflecting a cross-section of the Turkish population, the study revealed astonishing enthusiasm for sports, alongside gender-based differences in sporting interests.
An overwhelming 78% of adults in Turkey are keen followers of at least one sport. Unsurprisingly, soccer leads the pack with a regular following of 43%. Close contenders include volleyball at 21%, swimming and other water sports at 18%, as well as basketball and fitness, each attracting 15% of the sporting population. In contrast, the proportion of those not engaged with any sport accounts for only 21.6% of the population.
Active Participation in Sports Uncovered
The survey sheds light on how sport serves not only as entertainment but as a crucial component of a healthy, active lifestyle in Turkey. Notably, a significant portion of respondents actively participate in the sports they follow. Among soccer enthusiasts, 58% step onto the field themselves, while 60% of volleyball fans do the same. Interests in sports like swimming, basketball, and fitness are growing, signaling a nationwide trend towards healthier living across diverse age and socio-economic segments.
