Empowering Future Generations with Disaster Preparedness

The “Conscious Steps to Safe Tomorrows” initiative, spearheaded by Allianz Turkey in collaboration with the Educational Volunteers Foundation of Turkey (TEGV) and under the expert guidance of Allianz Teknik—Turkey’s pioneering accredited earthquake laboratory—continues to effectively nurture disaster awareness among children.

In the second phase of this program, children who visited Allianz Teknik were able to practically apply their knowledge through immersive simulations, reinforcing what they had learned in earlier sessions.

Program Expansion and Practical Learning

Allianz Turkey, a leading entity in the national insurance sector, is steadfast in its commitment to fostering a society aware of disaster risks, particularly in a region prone to seismic activity. The program’s second phase, developed in partnership with TEGV and guided by Allianz Teknik’s expertise, offered children firsthand experience by visiting Allianz Teknik, where they could apply their learnings in a controlled, realistic setting.

During these visits, Allianz Teknik experts demonstrated essential pre-, during-, and post-disaster behaviors. Children engaged in simulations, allowing them to experience and internalize these critical safety measures in lifelike environments.

Dr. Eren’s Vision for Early Disaster Education

Risk Engineering and Allianz Teknik Director, Dr. Ceyhun Eren, emphasized the importance of instilling disaster awareness early. “Hosting children from various TEGV branches at Allianz Teknik throughout the year aligns with our goal to foster a culture of safety and preparedness. We are dedicated to equipping children with the knowledge and adaptability to handle potential disasters,” said Dr. Eren. He highlighted Allianz Teknik’s role as Turkey’s sole accredited earthquake lab, advocating for widespread community education and disaster readiness.

“Our contribution to preparing children for a secure future is invaluable. Early disaster awareness is pivotal in nurturing a healthy and resilient society,” Dr. Eren added.

A Three-Tiered Approach to Comprehensive Education

The “Conscious Steps to Safe Tomorrows” initiative is structured as a comprehensive three-tiered educational program. In its first stage, TEGV locations hosted training sessions for children aged 7-14, focusing on natural disaster recognition and implementing the ‘collapse-trap-hold’ technique through interactive activities, drills, and games.

The second phase centers on enhancing children’s disaster awareness by facilitating visits to Allianz Teknik, either physically or virtually. The third phase introduces a board game designed to further disseminate accurate disaster information, aiming to reach a broader audience.

The program, currently operational in select pilot provinces, strives to expand its reach, targeting 135,000 children across 34 provinces over three years by increasing its presence in more locations.
