Strategic Enhancements in Aon’s Construction, Infrastructure, and Surety Practice

Global leader in insurance and reinsurance broking, Aon, has fortified its construction, infrastructure, and surety division across North America by appointing Rob McDonough and Brian Hodges to pivotal roles. McDonough returns to Aon, stepping into the role of CEO for construction, infrastructure, and surety, while Hodges assumes the position of Head of Surety for North America.

The duo is set to commence their responsibilities in the coming weeks, under the guidance of Brian Wanat, Head of Commercial Risk for North America at Aon. McDonough, based in New York, will spearhead the strategic direction and expansion of the business, capitalizing on Aon’s cutting-edge investments in data, analytics, and content. With over two decades of experience, McDonough re-enters Aon following a tenure at Marsh McLennan, where he served as the U.S. Construction Industry Leader, offering extensive insight into the intricate nature of construction projects and the comprehensive risk capital value chain.

Hodges will operate from the Washington, D.C. area, leading a team specializing in surety, which encompasses contract and commercial surety as well as fulfillment teams. His appointment is designed to expedite Aon’s efforts in managing complex indemnity structures and crafting bespoke solutions that empower clients to safeguard and expand their businesses. Bringing over 25 years of industry acumen, Hodges also joins from Marsh McLennan, where he led the U.S. Surety and Subcontractor Default Insurance Practice. His prior experience includes a significant role at global insurer Zurich, where he honed his expertise in surety and underwriting.

Wanat commented, “Construction is a top priority for Aon as we navigate the evolving risks impacting the industry. We are thrilled to welcome Rob and Brian to the firm and for their leadership in this dynamic sector.” He further emphasized that the inclusion of these two talented leaders, alongside Aon’s ongoing investments in construction, positions the firm to deliver unparalleled service and expertise that aids clients in mitigating risks and making informed decisions.

Lori Goltermann, CEO of Regions and North America for Aon, added, “We are excited for Rob and Brian to join our team – their expertise and vision will undoubtedly build on the success of one of our largest industry practice groups. The construction industry remains a global priority for Aon, and their leadership will be instrumental in meeting our clients’ evolving needs. In a market characterized by new and emerging risks, we are confident that their addition will help us continue to deliver outstanding results for our clients.”

With these strategic leadership appointments, Tony DeFelice will maintain his role as Chairman of Casualty, while Mike Herrod transitions to the role of Chairman of Surety.
