Anadolu Sigorta Showcases ‘Eyes of the Forest’ at International Conference

Anadolu Sigorta unveiled the revolutionary contributions of its ‘Eyes of the Forest’ social responsibility initiative at an international assembly in Istanbul, attended by representatives from eight countries. The project, which leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence, unmanned fire watch towers, and early warning technologies, has successfully safeguarded 587,000 hectares of forest land, enabling the early detection of 155 fires to date.

Spotlight on Sustainability Vision at Global Conference

The conference, entitled “Innovative Technologies and Methods for Preventing, Mitigating and Monitoring Forest Fires Linked to Climate Change,” took place in Istanbul on June 19-20. Anadolu Sigorta participated alongside delegates from Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, and Greece, sharing insights through a presentation titled “Early Detection of Forest Fires and Contributions of the ‘Eyes of the Forest’ Social Responsibility Project.”

Protecting 587,000 Hectares with AI-Powered Surveillance

Initiated in 2022, the Eyes of the Forest project marks a strategic effort by Anadolu Sigorta to combat the climate crisis through a comprehensive sustainability approach. In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s General Directorate of Forestry, the project establishes a tech-driven early warning network in Turkey’s forests. This includes video analysis software, smoke detection systems, and new generation unmanned fire watch towers.

So far, thanks to 13 towers set up in regions like Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Kahramanmaraş, Mersin, Adana, Antalya, Muğla, Çanakkale, and Kastamonu, 155 forest fires have been detected promptly. The initiative now oversees 587,000 hectares of forest area. Anadolu Sigorta plans to expand the network to 16 towers by the end of July with new installations in Izmir, Bilecik, and Denizli.

These towers not only provide vigilant surveillance against fires but also deter illegal activities such as logging, construction, and hunting, while enhancing security in forested regions. Additionally, they assist in wildlife protection and facilitate the coordination of emergency response teams through communication-enhancing base station functions.

Sharing Expertise on a Global Stage

During the conference, Anadolu Sigorta officials engaged with international experts, illustrating how their project serves as a model in fire management, social awareness, technological integration, and sustainability. The emphasis was on how AI systems enable quicker interventions in fires, safeguarding natural habitats.

As Anadolu Sigorta celebrates its 100th anniversary, the company remains committed to fostering a sustainable future through impactful social responsibility initiatives. The Eyes of the Forest project exemplifies their dedication to integrating technology with an environmentally conscious mindset.
